Facebook does not allow to have more than 3 items on the main menu, we designed the main menu for SnehAI using a
unique feature known as Carousels in the Facebook Messenger. With this design approach, we could have more than 3 menu items and also have interactive images and buttons to move ahead in the journey. The bot uses
storytelling,
games and videos to engage users in conversations on a range of
sexual and reproductive health issues like virginity, contraception, same-sex attraction, masturbation and safe online behavior.
SnehAI
was launched in 2019 as an extension of Population Foundation of India’s transmedia social and behaviour change communication program,
Main Kuch Bhi Kar Sakti Hoon (MKBKSH; I, A Woman, Can Achieve, Anything).
In 2021,
new themes around safe online behaviour were introduced to the chatbot – with the key focus on the various aspects of Online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (OCSEA). The idea was to link young people to relevant resources and helplines that they may find useful. The bot was also implemented on the WhatsApp platform and the upgraded SnehAI version showed a tremendous increase in the user base. It nearly has
1,36,000+ active users and
8,600,000+ conversations on a daily basis.
